Tournament 14th of May!

On Thursday the 14th of May at 15:30 we are organising another chess tournament! Snacks will be provided to all participants and are included in the registration fee. The format is 7 rounds of 10|5, click the button below for more information.

PS: I made an interesting (and difficult) puzzle, check it out if you want to challenge yourself before the tournament!

The first move is the brilliant Ra8+!!

This forces black to take, after which white sacrifices the queen! Since the king is completely boxed in by his own pieces, all it takes is the thematic knight on g6 and bishop on b3 configuration against the king on g8 and its checkmate on the next move.

Note: it is not possible to start with Qxh7 since black can block Ra8+ with Nf8. If white plays a slow move such as capturing the free rook with Rxa1: taking the pawn with Qxf2 followed by Kh2 Qg1# is actually checkmate for black!

Don’t feel bad if you didn’t solve it, I don’t expect anyone below the rating of 1800-2000 to be able to find the correct solution. With that said if you did find it you should feel good about yourself, this was not an easy puzzle!

Lesson April 23rd

Join us for a lesson on Thursday the 23rd of April! The lesson will be lead by one of the club’s strongest players with a FIDE-rating well over 2000 so I’m sure you will learn something regardless of your current level. What are you waiting for? Click the button below for more info!
